Response To The Hundredth Dove
How would you feel if you had a choice between love and to serve your master as you promised you would? Well is the story “The Hundredth Dove” that happens to Hugh and he made a big decision he stayed with his gut and served his king. A wedding was going to happen and the king needed a Hundred doves to show his love towards the Queen so he sent his fowler Hugh to find a hundred doves. When Hugh looked for the dove’s one was different than the rest it kept escaping from his perfect net. So on the very last day to find his hundredth dove he caught it and the dove said set me free and you will have the king’s wife. It was a tempting offer but he obeyed the king. When he dropped all the birds off at the kings Kitchen there was never a wedding he had killed the queen dove and the queen. Hugh did the right thing sticking with his gut feeling and not disobeying his king.
One of the best things of a short story is relating to the character. I can relate to the character because I have had to do work for an elder preparing for something big just like Hugh. It is hard work but I have never had to work with doves. He was way over his head with that queen dove so he killed the dove and the queen and there was no wedding all that preparing for nothing.
Even though relating to the character is important knowing the plotline and symbolism has the same importance. Since this story is not be real and had a lot of doves gold and other symbolism it would be a romance. It is a romance because; it starts in a dream world with a King and Queen. Also it has a minor conflict which is he has to get a hundred doves. The conflict keeps going through the story not being a threat to anyone. Then at the end when he can’t catch the queen dove and searches and finally finds it he killed it by all the tempting offers he was given. This is when there is happiness again because the dove is no longer there anymore to make tell him what he should do. This is why this story is a romance.
This story was very interesting it had romance in it and other valuable details that made this story good. But the main lesson in this story always stick with your gut feeling because when you second guess you might make the wrong decision.
